How do moving offense charges stack?

Rhode Island residents like yourself may not know that simple traffic violations can stack up quickly, resulting in more of an impact on your life than you might have expected. At Lynch & Pine, we lay out all of the possible consequences of one or more traffic violations to highlight just how heavily you might be affected by stacking traffic violations.

Moving offenses can stack up to equal some hefty punishments. In Rhode Island, if you get four or more convictions for moving offenses, you can face any or all of the following:

  • 60 hours of driving retraining
  • 60 hours of community service
  • $1000 in fines
  • 2 year license suspension

In order for these to occur, all of your moving offenses must happen within the same 18 month period of time. However, moving violations include any law violation that happens when your car is in motion. This means if you run a stop sign 4 times within 18 months, you could face all of these penalties.

Moving violations can also include more serious crimes as well, such as DUI crimes or hit and runs. Of course, the more severe the charge is, the heftier your penalties are likely to be.

If you're dealing with traffic violation charges, especially if they're charges on top of convictions or if you're facing multiple charges at once, it's a matter you'll want to solve swiftly and smoothly. If you take a look around at our web page, linked here, you will find more information that can be used to prepare you to fight against these charges and protect yourself.
